Supporting the British Heart Foundation

Amma's Story

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is a charity dedicated to funding lifesaving research into heart and circulatory diseases, supporting people when they need it most and campaigning for a healthier world. Funding more than £100 million of research each year, the BHF works towards a future where everyone can enjoy a healthier heart for longer, fewer hearts stop without warning and more people can live well with the people they love.

For some, this mission is close to home. For Amma, one of our Chef Managers, the work of the British Heart Foundation is deeply personal.

In October 2022, Amma suffered her first heart attack while working in the kitchen. She was taken to St George’s Hospital, where she was fitted with two stents. Sadly, this wasn't the end of her heart troubles. In July 2024, Amma became unwell again and underwent bypass surgery. Then, in January 2026, she began experiencing chest pains once more and was admitted to hospital, where she needed a third stent.

It was a frightening time for Amma and at one point, things were touch and go. Having been through so much, she feels strongly that she wouldn't be here today without the vital work carried out by the British Heart Foundation.

Despite everything she has experienced, Amma's determination and resilience shine through. Now, Amma is turning her personal experience into something positive by taking on the Strong Woman Challenge in support of the British Heart Foundation. The challenge involves 31 days of strength training, with a new exercise each day. By taking part, Amma is helping raise vital funds for research that could make a difference to people living with heart and circulatory conditions.

As we celebrate 25 years of our company, Amma's story is a powerful reminder of the people and personal experiences behind the causes we support. We're incredibly proud of Amma for taking on this challenge and supporting a charity whose work has had such a profound impact on her life.
